Arie Luyendyk Jr., son of two-time Indianapolis 500 Winner Arie Luyendyk, joins the fast-paced world of the Supercar Life team with more than 10 years of experience on the track.
Born to drive, Luyendyk, Jr. has reigned in world-class series across Europe and America. In 2001, he earned nine top-ten results in fourteen events in the USF2000 Series, taking the Championship title in the SCCA Southern Pacific Formula Ford class. In 2002, he earned a second place championship in the Indy Lights Series, taking four-second place finishes and a pole position at Michigan International Speedway.
Luyendyk, Jr. continued to climb the ranks in the Indy Lights Series finishing third in the prestigious Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2004. By 2006, he had earned the “Most Popular Driver Award” by the IRL for the fourth consecutive year.
In 2007, Luyendyk, Jr. went on to compete as a rookie driver for Team Netherlands in the A1GP Series. The next year, his racing career hit an all time high with a victory at Chicagoland Speedway, setting the all time quickest lap ever recorded in an Indy Lights car (194.332 m.p.h). He continued his success with 5 podium finishes and a pole position at Iowa Speedway (4th Career Pole), leading 3 different races for a total of 103 laps. Luyendyk, Jr. ended the 2008 season taking fourth in the Championship driving for the acclaimed AFS/Andretti Green Racing team.
